Choose Plants for Your Home

When caring for houseplants, you can consider things like light, water, temperature, and soil. You can also choose plants that are well-suited to your home's light conditions.

Light

Different plants need different light conditions.

Place plants a few inches away from a window to avoid temperature extremes.

Match plants with light conditions in your home.

Water

Water plants once or twice a week, depending on the heat.

Check the soil by sticking your thumb in the pot.

If the soil is dry, water the plant.

If the soil is still moist, don't water the plant.

Temperature

Plants grow best if the temperature doesn't go below 55°F or above 75°F.

Soil

Use good-quality potting soil.

Keep the soil moist, but not wet.

Other tips

Choose the right size pot and don't put too many plants in it.

Fertilize and control pests.

Increase humidity and prevent drafts.

Keep foliage clean.
